About Us

Our work is vital in empowering rural communities with health education, improving maternal and adolescent health, and building sustainable systems for a healthier, self-reliant future.

Manab Kalyan, founded in 2007 by a group of passionate youth, emerged in West Darrang, Assam, to support poor and vulnerable villagers severely affected by widespread cancer cases. The alarming rise in cancer-related deaths inspired the team to take action by conducting health studies, organizing free cancer detection camps with B. Baruah Cancer Institute, and spreading awareness through community meetings. Over time, Manab Kalyan expanded its focus to include maternal and child health, livelihood development, and overall community well-being. Today, the organization continues to empower rural communities through health education, awareness programs, and sustainable development initiatives, striving for a healthier and more resilient society.

Collaborative Health Response with Jeevan Shiksha

In collaboration with Jeevan Shiksha, we demonstrated the importance of timely action and community-driven healthcare interventions during natural disasters. This partnership ensured that essential medical care reached the most vulnerable flood-affected families, reducing the risk of disease outbreaks. Our joint effort reflects a strong commitment to community well-being, resilience, and solidarity. It reaffirmed our belief that collective action can bring relief, restore hope, and strengthen communities during times of crisis.

Post-Flood Health Intervention

In the aftermath of the devastating floods in August 2024, the community faced a severe rise in waterborne and vector-borne diseases. Recognizing the urgent need for medical support, we collaborated with our partner organization, Jeevan Shiksha, to organize four free health check-up camps in the most affected areas. Each camp was staffed with qualified medical professionals who provided comprehensive consultations, basic treatments, and distributed essential medicines free of cost. Health awareness and hygiene sessions were also conducted to prevent further disease outbreaks. Over 1,000 villagers directly benefited from this initiative, which not only provided critical medical aid but also strengthened community resilience through compassion and solidarity.

Strengthening Panchayat Involvement in VHSNC Committees

We conducted meetings to clarify the roles and responsibilities of Panchayat members within the Village Health, Sanitation, and Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs). During the discussions, it was observed that ASHA workers often managed financial processes without holding formal meetings. This initiative helped create awareness among Panchayat members about the importance of active participation, regular meetings, and transparent fund utilization. As a result, greater accountability and coordination have been promoted in local health governance.
